Choose Your Trail Wisely Deep Creek Hot Springs visit tips

  • The most common access point is via the Bowen Ranch Trail, a 3.6-mile round trip hike with steep descents and hot return climbs.

  • For a more difficult but free option, use the Freedom Trail or Bradford Ridge Trail—longer and steeper, but avoids the Bowen Ranch fee.

  • Wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring trekking poles if needed, and be ready for exposed sun and no shade.

💧 2. Bring Plenty of Water

  • There’s no drinking water at the springs or trailheads.

  • Carry at least 2–3 liters per person, especially in summer—it can get dangerously hot.

  • Dehydration and heat stroke are common problems here.

🛁 3. Know What to Expect at the Springs

  • There are several natural pools along Deep Creek with varying temperatures (from warm to very hot).

  • The area is clothing-optional, so expect nudity—this is normal here.

  • The pools are beautiful but not filtered, so avoid submerging your head to reduce the risk of Naegleria fowleri (a rare but serious brain infection).

🧼 4. Pack Out Everything

  • There are no trash cans or facilities—practice Leave No Trace.

  • Bring a trash bag and pack out everything, including food wrappers and toilet paper.

🚫 5. No Camping at the Springs

  • Camping at the hot springs is prohibited by the U.S. Forest Service.

  • Rangers do patrol, and violators can be fined. Camp in designated areas nearby if you want to stay overnight.
